ABOUT PEAR SHAPED SHACKLES
Pear Shackles, also known as Pear Shaped End Shackles, or Pear Anchor Joining Shackles, are a commonly used link between the chain cable and the crown shackle attached to the anchor.
It replaces more complex connections with a higher number of components between the anchor and the chain, often replacing the D Shackle, End Link, Enlarged Link and the Kenter Shackle. This is thanks to it's size compensation.
It is only manufactured in Grade 3 U3, the Grade 2 Pear Shackle is no longer in use in the maritime industry, although it used to be.

Pear Shackles are used in several sizes of chain, and therefore have applications in vessels of all sorts of sizes.
These shackles are often used in highly professional or specialized environments, they are commonly seen in commercial fleets such as in cargo or container ships.

MATERIAL QUALITY CONTROL
Pear Shaped End Shackles are manufactured only in Grade 2 using the same or very similar steel as the anchor chain. Depending on availability of materials or customer preferences, these shackles can be produced with CM690 or S690Q steel, both high quality options that achieve excellent results.
By using these high quality materials we can obtain mechanical properties similar or equivalent to the ones in this table:

Pear Shackles come in 12 different sizes. Pear Shackle number 1 is rarely used and has been omitted. The smallest pear shackles can be used in 19-24 mm chain, while larger models fit 94-95 mm chain, and the largest ones 110-114 mm anchor chains.
